Baby Talk
- Brian: They got their first proper pair of shoes yesterday.
- me: cool. velcro?
- Brian: Leather with velcro straps. An all velcro-shoe would be very impractical and impossible to clean.
- me: lol. they'd get trapped on carpets.
- Brian: true dat.
The first two issues in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Death of the Family arc (Batman #13 and #14) have been pitch perfect.
With the Court of the Owls (Batman issues #1 - #11) Snyder created a new enemy for Batman. It was fresh, brilliantly unveiled, and challenged Bruce in new ways.
With Death of the Family he’s brought Joker back. The Batman/Joker relationship is old ground and these comics could have felt redundant. But he’s achieved something visceral and never stops exploring Bruce as a character and bringing revelations to source material that is seventy years old.
This is not just a guy in a cape punching villains. This is great writing.
